Hotel du Vin & Bistro Winchester, occupies a fine house of classic Queen Anne proportions dating back to 1715, only a three minute walk from the famous cathedral.
The impressive high-ceilinged Drawing Room is stunning. The cream walls and mossy silk drapes that adorn the tall windows are offset by striking paintings and prints and eye catching sculptures. The Bistro overlooks Southgate Street while the rear looks out onto the walled garden. The dark wooden floorboards and glossy oak furniture create a classic bistro ambience and then relax in The Champagne Bar, with mirrored panels and low lighting that creates a special place for intimate evenings.
The hotel’s bedrooms are divided between those in the main house and the Garden Rooms and Cottage Rooms. The four Garden Rooms benefit from their own ‘front door’ and small ‘patio’, surrounded by lavender that scents the air. Many of the guest rooms in the main house have views of the cathedral spire.
Bedrooms are spacious and airy, with walls painted in creamy hues and windows draped with opulent swathes of rich fabric and all the bathrooms have exceptionally deep baths with monsoon-like showers.
The overall feel is one of a grand but informal private home.
